New SolidWorks Sheet Metal
Training Books
Milford,
OH, November 10, 2005
— Applied Production, Inc. announced today that it will publish a new
series of self-paced training books “SolidWorks for the Sheet Metal
Guy”. This series of five books will cover the basics of part creation
through complex features of sheet metal design. Emphasis is on creating
parts and features which maintain the design intent even when changes
are made to the material thickness or bend radius. Each lesson starts by
identifying the important features and dimensions, which must be held.
Step by step instruction is then provided to create the part so that
changes to any of these key dimensions will update the part and maintain
the design integrity.
The first book,
“Course 1 – Part Creation”, is scheduled to be released in November.
This book shows how to create real life sheet metal parts utilizing the
basic command features provided in the Sheet Metal toolbar. More
importantly, it teaches you to create corner notches and overlap when
and where you want it.
“Course 2 – Notches
and Hole Patterns” provides in depth instruction in the creation of
standard and special shape holes and cutouts. It answers the question of
how you replicate a hole pattern on the part so that future changes can
be made to one shape and all occurrences of that shape or pattern will
update.
"We have been
developing and marketing software for the sheet metal CAD/CAM industry
since 1985. Our customers have always looked to us for help modeling and
unfolding their parts. After hearing several customers say they wished
there was a book that showed them how to do it, we felt it was time to
make one," said Joe Bucalo, President of Applied Production, Inc. "We
took the process and broke it into 5 key areas. Each course will cover
one of these areas."
Our plan is to
publish one course each month. The new self-paced training books will
help to bridge the gap between solid modeling CAD and sheet metal
terminology. The typical sheet metal manufacturer is not familiar with
terms such as faces and extrusions. For example, a recent article in the
SolidWorks newsletter makes reference to a “Heel Point” in the bends
area. Sheet metal people would refer to this as the Outside Mold Line.
Currently the Applied
Production, Inc website features tutorials which users may download
immediately. Users also may register to receive free SolidWorks sheet
metal design tips and tricks by email.
